The European Evaluation Society (EES) organized the 12th Biennial Conference “Evaluation Futures in Europe and Beyond: Connectivity, Innovation and Use”. The conference was held in Maastricht, The Netherlands, from 26 to 30 September 2016. It aimed at taking stock of the current state of affairs in evaluation politics, capacity, systems, research, methods, communication and use; as well as sketch future directions.

Johanna Pennarz, IOE Lead Evaluation Officer, participated as a panellist in a discussion on "How Evaluators Can Become Agents of Change: Opportunities and Challenges Arising from the Sustainable Development Goals Agenda". Oscar Garcia, IOE Director, chaired the panel discussion. Ms Pennarz also delivered a presentation on Supporting Learning and Organizational Effectiveness - the Communication Function of the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD (IOE) at the session titled “Communication Tools for Evaluation”.  The presentation brought out IOE’s approach to supporting learning and change through evaluation and the specific role communication has in it.
