Rome, 28 May 2021 The Independent Office of Evaluation (IOE) of IFAD launches the first issue of its flagship magazine.

Independent Magazine brings to the forefront of the global development dialogue the major efforts undertaken by IOE, while seeking to advance IFAD’s vision of vibrant, inclusive and sustainable rural economies, where people live free from poverty and hunger. To present the richness of rural life, and detail facets of local community lifestyle, Independent Magazine also zooms in on cultural activities and landmark occurrences in countries featured by IOE’s evaluations.

This first issue puts the spotlight on the arrival of the new IOE Director, Indran A. Naidoo, and presents his vision for the future of the Office. Special features include a Q&A on pandemic-shaped evaluations with IOE Deputy Director, Fabrizio Felloni, and discussions from IOE’s Country Strategy and Programme (CSPE) evaluation learning workshops in Morocco, Uganda and Niger.

The magazine also zooms in on the findings and recommendations from IOE’s Evaluation Synthesis report on infrastructure, CSPE in Ecuador, and Project Performance (PPE) evaluations in Bangladesh and Tajikistan. Personal insights are shared on gathering community feedback in times of remote evaluation, on taking stock of environmental consequences of development interventions, and on communicating evaluations.
