The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria and the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD (IOE) co-organized a national round-table workshop - in collaboration with IFAD’s West and Central Africa Division - to discuss the main issues emerging from the Nigeria Country Programme Evaluation, as a final step in the evaluation process. The event was held on 7 April 2016 in Abuja.The workshop was chaired by the Honourable Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development represented by Mr Musibau Olumuyiwa Azeez. Around 120 participants attended the workshop, including representatives of Nigeria's federal ministries and state governments, representatives of bilateral and multilateral aid institutions, non-governmental and civil society organizations, representatives of the private sector and other stakeholders.

The evaluation in Nigeria assessed the performance of the partnership between IFAD and the Nigerian government to reduce rural poverty. During the period covered by the evaluation, 2009-2015, IFAD-funded operations focused on the poorest states in the country, and effectively provided support in particular to hard-to-reach communities in the poorer northern states. IFAD-supported programmes reached 9.2 million people out of the 14.2 million targeted. The outreach was less than planned but the concentration of investments in a smaller number of villages enabled the activities to be delivered successfully and created good results. The workshop were widely covered by the Nigerian media.
