On Monday, 7 October 2019 the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD (IOE) hosted the launch of the new book Information and Communication Technologies for Development Evaluation. The book provides insights into the implications of new and emerging technologies in development evaluation and particularly the added challenges of charting progress towards Agenda 2030.

The event was attended by IFAD’s Executive Board representatives, Senior Management, staff from IFAD, FAO and WFP and students and professors from various universities.

The book, published by Routledge under the Routledge Studies in Development Economics series, was edited by Oscar Garcia, Director, IOE and Prashanth Kotturi, Evaluation Analyst, IOE. It presents important contributions made by a team of expert practitioners as the result of an international conference on this topic that IFAD hosted in 2017.

The event started with an opening address by Cornelia Ritcher, Vice-President of IFAD, followed by Oscar  Garcia who provided an overview of the book.

This was followed by a panel discussion on innovative solutions for evidence driven development. The session was chaired by Alison Evans, Director General and senior Vice President of the Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank Group. Panel speakers included Marie Gaarder, Director of the Evaluation Office and Global Director for Innovation and Country Engagement, International Initiative for Impact Evaluation, Michael Bamberger, independent consultant and author of UN Global Pulse report on “Integrating Big Data into Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Programmes”, Edward Gallagher, Lead Officer, Change Delivery and Innovation Unit, IFAD and Oscar A.
