In the framework of the United Nations Rome-based Agencies collaboration, a one and a half-day learning event was jointly organized on 21-22 May 2014 by the Evaluation Offices of CGIAR, FAO, IFAD and WFP. The training, launched in response to the UN System-wide Action Plan on gender mainstreaming (UNSWAP), aimed at enhancing knowledge in gender analysis and evaluation.

The first day focused on the key tools that can be applied to strengthen the gender dimension of the evaluation work (i.e. gender analytical frameworks, United Nations Evaluation Group guidelines). Two sessions were also dedicated to present the main indicators and data collection methods aimed at measuring impact from a gender equality/women's empowerment perspective. In particular, IFAD's Gender, Empowerment and Social Inclusion Team of the Policy and Technical Advisory Division (PTA) presented its work on the Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI).

During the second day, the participants worked on concrete cases by exchanging views and experiences with peers on how to integrate gender in their specific evaluations. This highly interactive exercise was a valuable opportunity to share evaluation knowledge across the agencies.
