The Office of Evaluation and Gender Team of World Food Programme (WFP) organized a learning event, “IFAD’s Evaluation synthesis on What works for gender equality and women’s empowerment – a review of practices and results”, on 29 May 2017, at WFP’s headquarters. The event was based on IOE’s evaluation synthesis on gender, led by Johanna Pennarz, IOE Lead Evaluation Officer, who also delivered the presentation.

The gender evaluation synthesis provides a working definition and a conceptual framework for identifying gender-transformative practices that are also highly relevant in the context of the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Through systematic review of reports prepared by the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD since 2011, this evaluation synthesis has identified a number of transformative practices that address root causes of gender inequality and discrimination and promote sustainable, inclusive and far-reaching social change.

The presentation raised awareness on gender-transformative practices by introducing of the conceptual framework used for this synthesis and the presenting practical examples. The case studies included in the synthesis report may be used for wider learning and dissemination.
