The context

Jamaica faces a complex socio-economic landscape, while addressing inequalities and fostering sustainable development. There are ongoing efforts to diversify and strengthen the economy through tourism, mining, agriculture and services. 

Rural areas have limited access to education and healthcare. Social issues, including crime, remain concerns.

• Agriculture accounts for 8 per cent of the GDP and about one sixth of the workforce.  

• Almost three in five Jamaicans could not afford a healthy diet in 2021.
