In collaboration with the Government of Kenya and ESA, IOE organized a National Roundtable Workshop in connection with the Kenya Country Programme Evaluation (CPE) on 8 June in Nairobi. The objectives of the Kenya CPE national roundtable workshop were to:

  • Discuss the main issues emerging from the Kenya CPE
  • Provide inputs for the preparation of the evaluation's Agreement at Completion Point (ACP); and
  • provide an opportunity for reflecting on key issues for the forthcoming Kenya Country Strategic Opportunities Programme (COSOP).

The workshop was attended by around 100 persons, including representatives of the Government of Kenya, IFAD management and staff, provincial authorities, project staff, donor agencies, foundations, academia and others. Selected sessions of the workshop were chaired, respectively, by the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock, and Director IOE. As a means to promoting more interactive dialogue among participants during the workshop, a panel discussion was organised on three main themes emerging from the CPE, including the future geographic and sub-sector priorities of IFAD operations in Kenya, the role of IFAD in further strengthening government capacities and performance, and the opportunities and challenges for enhancing project efficiency. The panel was comprised of Associate Vice President, Programmes, Director ESA, Deputy Director IOE, Director Agriculture USAID, Vice President AGRA, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The IFAD delegation which took part in the workshop had the opportunity to visit IFAD-funded Mount Kenya project before the workshop in the Eastern Province on 6-7 June. During the field visit, the delegation had the opportunity to discuss with provincial authorities, project staff, representatives of implementing agencies, and beneficiaries and their groups. They visited various project sites, including a milk cooling centre, small scale irrigation system, dam, primary school greening activities, fish pond, horticulture activities, and livestock development.
