The Independent Office of Evaluation (IOE), in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Ghana and IFAD’s West and Central Africa Division (WCA), organized a national workshop for the Ghana Country Strategy and Programme Evaluation (CSPE), as a final step in the evaluation process.

The event took place on 22 October 2024, from 9.30 to 12.30 in Accra (11.30 to 14.30 Rome time). It entailed the participation of representatives of the Government, development partners, civil society organizations, private sector partners and IFAD senior management and staff.

The objectives of the workshop were to:

• discuss the main findings, recommendations and issues emerging from the CSPE;

• appreciate opportunities and challenges in the IFAD-Government partnership and strategic priorities for IFAD’s upcoming programmes; and

• discuss points that can be considered in the finalization and signing of the evaluation’s Agreement at Completion Point (ACP).

 

The event opened with the introduction and welcome by Mr Bernard Avle, the workshop moderator. Dr Indran A. Naidoo, IOE Director, delivered an introductory statement. Opening statements were given by Mr Bernard Hien, Regional Director, WCA, and Hon Dr Stephen Amoah, Deputy Minister in-charge of Wealth Creation, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. This was followed by a coffee break and group photo session.

Mr Hansdeep Khaira, Senior Evaluation Officer, IOE, delivered a presentation on the CSPE’s main findings, conclusions and recommendations. This was followed by a Q&A session.

The workshop resumed with a panel discussion, moderated by Mr Khaira. The panellists were Mr Paul Siameh, Agricultural Chief Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mr Kosi Yankey, CEO, Ghana Enterprise Agency; Mr Gordon P.D. Dery, Head, Business Development, Marketing and Research, ARB Apex Bank; Mr Peter Yawson, Deputy Director, Department of Feeder Roads and Dr. Ashwini Sebastian, Senior Economist, World Bank Ghana.

Hon Dr Bryan Acheampong then delivered a statement on the Government’s orientations on the future IFAD strategy in Ghana. Thereafter, Ms Lakshmi Moola, IFAD Country Director for Ghana, delivered a statement containing reflections on IFAD’s future strategic and operational directions in the country.

The workshop’s closing session comprised a closing statement by Mr Patrick Yaw Nimo, Chief Director, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and closing remarks by Dr Naidoo.

The event was attended by over 52 participants.
