Central Highlands Agricultural Development Project

Central Highlands Agricultural Development Project

The project was modelled on the successful Southern Uplands Rural Development Project – Phase II. The project area included ten districts in the Dhamar and Sana’a governorates. Activities provided for:

  • construction of extension centres, block centres and housing for block centre staff
  • equipment and staff for the extension centres
  • technical assistance for training
  • inputs and equipment for training extension agents and farmers
  • 15 water supply schemes
  • technical assistance to strengthen project administration and expand the irrigated area

The project had a positive impact on agricultural production. It was successful in enlisting the assistance of Local Councils for Cooperation Development in implementing its rural women’s programme.
